“Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, 'May he be blessed of the Lord who has not
withdrawn his kindness to the living and to the dead.'" (Ruth 2:20, NASB95)

James Tissot: Gleaners as in Deuteronomy
Have you ever wondered if the twists and turns in your life are just random luck—or if something deeper is at work? The story of Ruth, especially chapter 2, reminds us that what looks like coincidence is often God’s providence quietly unfolding.
Ruth and Naomi were in desperate need, but Ruth chose to take the next faithful step—heading into the fields to glean leftover grain. She didn’t know what would happen, but God was already at work. Through Boaz’s kindness and generosity, Ruth not only found provision for herself and Naomi, but opened the door to a much bigger plan, one that would change her family and even history itself.
What does this mean for us? It means we don’t have to explain life away as just luck, or get stuck in worry when things feel uncertain. Like Ruth, we’re called to live faithfully right where we are—to do the next right thing and trust that God is weaving our ordinary days into something meaningful.
So this week, pay attention to the small ways God is providing, guiding, and working behind the scenes. Take that next step of faith, knowing your story is part of something much bigger than you can see.
