Nothing Left to Offer?

“No, my daughters; for it is harder for me than for you, for the hand of the Lord has gone forth against me” (Ruth 1:13, NASB95).

Have you ever felt so weighed down by mistakes that you believe you have nothing left to give—to God or anyone else? Perhaps you once overflowed with joy, encouragement, and faith, but now, after a string of poor decisions, you feel empty and disqualified. It’s easy to stamp “disqualified” on your spiritual résumé and assume you’re sidelined for good.

Yet the opening chapter of Ruth shines hope into the lives of all who feel spiritually empty or unworthy. Naomi, Ruth’s mother-in-law, was convinced her losses meant she had nothing left—no family, no security, no future.

Naomi’s pain was so deep that she urged her daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home” (Ruth 1:8). Her grief clouded her perspective: “No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord’s hand has turned against me!” (Ruth 1:13, NIV).

But even in her emptiness, God was already at work behind the scenes. Where Naomi saw only lack, God saw an opportunity to pour out His provision and redemption. She thought she had no bread to give, but God provided. She believed she had no husband for Ruth, but God had Boaz waiting.

Here’s the truth: It’s not about what we have to offer, but whom we offer. We aren’t the source—God is. Returning to Him doesn’t mean presenting our strength, but opening our brokenness so His grace and power can fill the gaps. When you feel you have nothing left, remember: in Christ, you have everything to offer, because He is always enough.
